About Rosetta Stone

The Rosetta Stone is a stone fragment found near the Egyptian village of Rosetta in 1799. It contained the same text in three different languages – Egyptian hieroglyphic, demotic Egyptian, and Greek – and unlocked the door to scholars trying to translate Egyptian hieroglyphics. I also work in three different languages, but like most translators I only translate into my native language.

About me

I was born in the United States, and graduated with a degree in music history from the University of California at Berkeley. I moved to the Netherlands in 1989 and have been translating since 1997. My special areas of interest are:

  • music (especially classical) and culture in general
  • agriculture, food and gastronomy
  • ecology and environmental affairs

and I translate most general and commercial subjects as well.

A translator who works with you, not just for you

I take pride in helping clients achieve their goals. If your text doesn’t reach your readers in the way you intended it to, you’ve wasted time and money. Before we start, I like to know a few things about the job, like what kind of readers the text is intended for, and if it isn’t already clear, whether it is a book, website, dissertation, etc. I may also ask more specific questions about the text. We have to be ‘on the same page’.

Although I translate only into English, I am a member of several networks and can probably find the right person for you if you need a translation into another language.
